Zevenue - September

first edition

Hey! Welcome to monthly updates from Zevenue ⚡. I’ve started doing this to keep friends updated and share more behind the scenes of our work.

I’ll share updates, lessons, and growth tips as we encounter them.

What we do

Better outbound sales for startups. So many startups struggle with their outbound when it comes to getting the right copy, data, and strategy to fuel their growth. We’re here to fix that. Our clients are anywhere between pre-seed and Series A, with some that are growing without funding.

Updates

We signed our largest deal yet in August, which is going to come with bigger expectations. Onboarding for us means having to learn lots about their industry very quickly, as we’re working with selling to financial advisors and event hosts for the first time. One of the perks (cons?) of working with SaaS startups without focusing on a unique vertical.

This was also the first time we’ve gotten a chance to work in person together after being fully remote until now!

Content

We’ve focused on SEO for the first time, starting 4 months ago. Our main resource has been the Outbound Playbook for Startups, a general overview of the outbound basics.

Latest in Outbound

We’re paying lots of attention to data. Where do we get our data from? How are we enriching it? What does it take to know more about our prospects than anyone else?

We’re doing this today in 3 parts.

  1. Leveraging multiple data sources

  2. Going beyond traditional data points that a database would give you like first name and company name

  3. Validating and cross-checking everything

This is where the differentiation for all our campaigns comes from. Our outreach for clients is super relevant and targeted.

For example, we had a client that sold to medical spas. We ran 3 separate campaigns: one for spas with great Google reviews and a low star rating, low reviews and a great rating, and low ratings/low reviews. This takes an extensive research step when done at scale (for us this meant 11,000 businesses a month) and takes more than just clicking “export” on a database, but gives us much better conversion when we start sending.

Initiatives

This month, we’ve looked at improving how we scrape data. We’ve started using new Python scripts to get us the information we need from unconventional sources. This has let us:

  • export thousands of records at a time with Apollo

  • scrape the entire list of events shared on Eventbrite

  • gather every financial advisory firm in the US + how many clients they have

Combining scraping efforts with a full research team that can gather unique data manually is giving us the intel we need to power our campaigns.

Feel free to forward this to any founder friends! And if you were forwarded this email, you can directly subscribe here to receive the next one. If you know a SaaS startup that needs help with their outbound and growth, recommendations are always welcome 🙂 We’re also looking for an SDR if you know a great writer!
